When I went to buy my first SLR in 1971 the choice was down to the Minolta SrT-101 and the Sensorex. After about two-three weeks or asking around I decided on the Minolta. Mostly based on it being the bigger company and most likely to be around. Good idea! Today, besides my massive collection of Minoltas, I have about six of the Sensorex of which five work except for the meters where none work.
Minolta SR-Ts are great cameras my first slr was the 102. The one problem with the Sensorex is that it uses a mercury cell. Thankfully my meter is still functioning!
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen one of these in person, but I’ve always thought they were very good looking cameras. This, the Contarex, and the Exakta Varex cameras have always been on my list of cameras I’d love to buy, but probably wouldn’t love to use. Well written as always, Alex. And the photos look great!
I was the same way with the Sensorex! I had always known about Miranda, but first learned more details about them from my friend John Meadows. So I was super excited to get a working one on the bench! Thanks for the kind words! I’m looking forward to taking it out this weekend!
An interesting and rather quirky looking camera, though clearly quite capable of producing superb results. Will you do a follow-up with the 'new' lens(es) at some point? If so, I look forward to reading about it's further adventures.
Oh yes! A full review and a review video are in process; those are coming out in May! I have a waist-level finder on its way to me, and I have a line on a telephoto lens for a small kit.
