My issue is before I invest in lenses, I want to be sure I have back-up ways to use them, e.g. if the camera goes out. This can be adapt to digital ( the least preferred); back-up body/bodies or compatible substitute, or film camera adapter. For that reason, I am limiting my number of systems.
No problems in having a backup body, I have three AF F-Mount cameras, 2 EF-Mount, 2 A-Mount, and three MF F-Mount! So yeah, lots of systems, but lots of backups.
I think I’m a minimalist but I’m trying to be a maximalist (I blame the endless eBay listings). I have five 35mm cameras and an instant camera, but they all have their own place or specific reason for being in my collection. I love exploring film stocks and seeing how they react in different situations or with different filters. But I feel decision paralysis and sometimes that keeps me from shooting as much as I want to
I'm getting a lot better at only bringing what I want to shoot with and sticking with that and trusting my gut! I do end up shooting less but getting more results.
I definitely fit the maximalist approach, though nowhere near as coordinated and organised. So often I wish I was, but I've always been hopeless at taking notes. Even whilst at work, where note-taking would have made life so much easier, I seldom did (I'm the proverbial scatterbrain). That freeze thingy, I know that. As much as I love having choice and options, there's also something so liberating when keeping things simple. The hardest choice is usually what kit/film to take on holiday... 😬😏
F**k. I had written a long comment that just went up in limbo. Short version; maximalist trying to keep a minimalistic approach to gear choice due to the mentioned "freeze" issue. Right now debating on what to bring on an upcoming road trip to the Swiss alps later this summer.

I'm getting better at picking and choosing, I'll have to write a piece on how I go and choose a kit for vacation/photo walks/trips.

Yep! Totally get that, maxamlist in the main toolbox, minamalist in bringing it along.
